4 month old Ethan!

The months are just flying by!! I think we have begun the teething process this month.  Hopefully it doesn't bother him for long.  I ordered Sophie the giraffe for him, which is supposed to be awesome for teething, we will see how it goes!

Weight: This was an up and down crazy month in terms of weight!  There was one two week period at the beginning of the month where he only gained 1 oz in 2 weeks.  But, he was eating like crazy, so I tried not to worry too much.  Then, I took him in the next weekend and he had gained 13.6 oz in 1 week, so definitely made up for it!  He is somewhere over 16 lbs now.  He doesn't go for his 4 month checkup until next Wednesday (Dec 7).  I am having a little trouble keeping up with pumping at work for the crazy amount he is eating.  Today he took a 9 oz bottle at daycare!  He is very inconsistent with how much he eats and still does not have a schedule!

Length:  He was 22 inches at birth, 21 inches at his first dr appt, 22 1/4 inches at his one month appt, 24 inches at his 2 month appt., 25 inches for an at home estimate for 3 months, and 25 1/2 inches for my at home estimate today.  I will update after his dr's appointment.

Head:  His head circumference was 38 cm at his first appt, 39.5 cm at 1 month, 42 cm at 2 months, at home estimate of 43.5 cm for 3 months, and an at home estimate of 44 cm at 4 months.

Clothes:  He now has no 0-3 or 3 month outfits left in his drawers and he is wearing 3-6 month, 6 month, and 6-9 month outfits.  The problem with some 3-6 month outfits is they are too small to fit over his head, haha!  He is wearing size 2 pampers and size 3 kirkland's diapers.  He will be going up to size 3 pampers as soon as I finish the current box.

Sleep:  Well, this month has been up and down with sleep.  In the beginning of the month he made it through a whole week with sleeping through the night every night.  It was FANTASTIC!  Then, last Sunday he decided that he wanted to start waking up 3-5 times a night.  I only feed him once still, and he usually goes right back to sleep with putting the pacifier in, but it is still not fun.  He still goes to sleep really easily at night though, which is good.  Hope that continues.  It has been tiring waking up so many times as well as waking up at 2 am to pump in order to keep up with is eating!  Crazy what you do for your child!

Naps are still very inconsistent.  Maybe someday he will get on a schedule, lol.

What we do every day: Nothing has changed this month.

Eating:  Well the extra eating worked as he started packing on the weight.  Unfortunately he didn't go back to his every 3 hour schedule.  He is eating about every 2 to 2 1/2 hours at daycare and every 2 1/2 to 3 hours at home with me.  He eats anywhere from 4 oz to 9 oz in a bottle at daycare.  I just hope for some consistency soon, haha!

Looks:  I swear he has grown more blonde hair, but people tell me I am crazy.  Still has his blue eyes!

Milestones:  He has rolled from his tummy to back twice this month - the first time being on November 9.  He has started playing with toys and actually showing interests in them.  His favorite toys are Mr. Ladybug, Mr. Giraffe, and the burpcloth, haha!  He is laughing a lot now.  He loves to be thrown into the air.  He smiles so much at his dad - it is easy to see how much love he has for Jed!!

Firsts: First wedding, First Halloween, First Thanksgiving, first time to roll from belly to back, first professional family photos

What we are looking forward to:  Christmas Break and my graduation with my master's (it will be Ethan's first graduation ceremony, haha!)

What we are dreading:  Sleepless nights, hopefully those are a thing of the past!

Ethan's first halloween

Since Ethan can't eat candy yet and Jed and I are both on a mission to lose weight, we decided that we would only visit the neighbor's and Mama Morai for "trick-or-treating" with Ethan.  I didn't want to buy a costume, but luckily I had a hand-me down "skeleton" outfit that Ethan got to wear.  We did buy him a first Halloween onesie though (it was on clearance of course!).  Ethan of course was absolutely adorable.  Unfortunately he did not want to nap this afternoon/evening, so he wasn't in the greatest of moods when we went to visit people.  But oh well - he is cute even when he is upset!  Enjoy the pictures!

3 months old!

People tell you that time flies when you have a child, but there is no way they can truly prepare you for how fast they grow up.  Ethan is officially an infant instead of a newborn!

Weight: Strangely enough, Ethan's weight gain has slowed down a ton this month.  So much so that they wanted us start keeping track of diapers and try to squeeze in one extra feeding every day.  Last Friday he was 14 lbs 10 oz.  We don't go back to the dr until 4 months, but he was 15 lbs 0.6 oz when we were at the clinic on Saturday!!

Length:  He was 22 inches at birth, 21 inches at his first dr appt, 22 1/4 inches at his one month appt, and 24 inches at his 2 month appt.  We don't have an appt this month, so I measured him myself and estimated 25 inches!

Head:  His head circumference was 38 cm at his first appt, 39.5 cm at 1 month, 42 cm at 2 months, and since we didn't have a dr's appt, I estimated 43.5 cm!

Clothes:  Still in size 2 Pampers diapers.  He seems to do well with them, so we will stick with it!  Last weekend I went through and took most of the 0-3 clothes out of his drawers.  He is in mostly 3-6 month clothes and a few 6-9 month.  It was sad to put away all the clothes that don't fit anymore.  He has even outgrown his "I love mom" onesie :(.

Sleep:  Night time sleeping is fantastic.  If I keep him up past 7:30, he starts getting grumpy.  I put him in pj's (footed ones now that it is cooler), swaddle him, nurse him, and put him to bed starting about 7:30.  He goes right to sleep after nursing.  Even if he is still awake, once I put him in his cradle he goes right to sleep.  He usually wakes up around 4:00 am, then goes back to sleep.  On the week days I have to wake him up at 6:30 and on the weekends he sleeps in until 7:30-8:00.  3 times this month he made it all the way through the night without waking up!  One time he woke up at 5:45, the other 2 times I had to wake him up at 6:30.

Naps are getting better now that he is at daycare.  He usually sleeps about an hour at a time at daycare and about 40 min at a time at home.  He is doing better at putting himself to sleep, but he still needs rocked and held sometimes in the evenings.  I probably spoil him as I miss him during the day, so I don't mind holding him for naps.  He usually takes his first nap about an hour to an hour and a half after he first wakes up for the day!  He usually then takes another nap mid morning, one mid afternoon, then 1-2 short naps in the evening.

What we do every day: Our days are the same as last month now that I am back at work.  Up at 6:30, daycare at 7:05, Jed picks him up between 3:00-4:00, I get home around 4:15, then we hang out for the evening!

Eating:  Ethan was eating every 3 hours, but now that they want me to squeeze in another feeding, he is eating about every 2 1/2 hours.  He takes 4 oz bottles at daycare (although today he took one 6 oz bottle).  He nurses once with me in the middle of the night, once before daycare, 3-4 bottles at daycare, and then nurses twice with me in the evenings.  We will see how the extra eating went this week when we weigh him on Saturday.

Looks:  Still blonde hair and blue eyes.  Some people say he is looking more and more like me every day!

Milestones:  There are so many smiles now, it is fantastic.  He is rolling from his back to his side, but hasn't figured out how to make it all the way over yet.  He is grabbing at lots of things (clothes, necklace, etc.).  He is drooling a lot and blowing bubbles with his slobber.  He also discovered his tongue the other day.  He is now starting to imitate us when we stick out our tongue! He makes sounds with his lips every once in awhile that surprise him every time!  He also is grabbing on to things and transferring them to his other hand.  He is rolling from his back to his side, but nothing else yet.

Firsts: First 5k, first full month at daycare, first time to celebrate mom's birthday, first shots :(, first trip to Holton.

What we are looking forward to:  3 month pictures on Saturday!

What we are dreading:  5 day work weeks :(

I will add pictures later.

First set of shots :(

Ethan had his first set of shots today at the dr.  He had one shot right after he was born, but I wasn't there for that so I don't consider that his first shot, haha!

Unfortunately when I went to pick him up from daycare he had just fallen asleep.  He stayed asleep until I had to take him out of the carseat and did great for awhile.  Unfortunately when the dr started poking around he decided that he was mad he wasn't still asleep and started screaming.  This screaming just continued into the shots.  I didn't cry, which I figured I would.  After the shots we had to wait 15 min to make sure there were no reactions, so I cuddled with him to settle him down then I nursed him right back to sleep!  He did fairly well last night, just a little more sad than normal and then slept like normal last night.  Hopefully he is fine today!  I didn't like seeing him in pain, but I got through it just like I do when I get my own shots - I made sure not to look at the needle, haha!

2 months old!

How on earth has 2 months already gone by.  Ethan has definitely stolen my heart.

I headed back to work this week.  It was very hard, but has been made easier with the fact that my mom has been here this week to ease the transition.

A lot has happened this month, so here we go!

Weight:  At his last weight check he was 13 lbs 9 oz, but that was over a week ago.  He was 14 lbs 3 oz at his dr's appointment on October 3.  This is the 92nd percentile, so his weight  gain has slowed a little, haha!

Length:  He was 22 inches at birth, 21 inches at his first dr appt, and 22 1/4 inches at his one month appt.  He grew to 24 inches at his doctor's appointment.  That is up to the 90th percentile.

Head:  His head circumference was 38 cm at his first appt and 39.5 cm at today's appt (75th percentile).  He is getting a big head - he is up to 42 cm, which up's him to the 90th percentile!  At least he is just big all the way around!

Clothes:  We are currently in size 2 diapers - we are sticking with Pampers as I have gotten some really good deals and I love the wetness indicator line (yes I know, pathetic).  I didn't make it through my size 1's before he was having too many blowouts, so we will save those for another baby someday.  Clothes wise, he is still wearing a few 0-3 month clothes, a lot of 3-6, and some 6-9.  It is so annoying how all the brands are different.  He is definitely blessed in the clothes department!

Sleep:  Night time sleeping is usually fantastic.  He usually goes to bed around 7:30-8:00 and sleeps a good 7 hour stretch before he wakes up to eat.  Before I went back to work he would then go back to sleep until about 7:30-8:00.  Unfortunately when he goes to daycare I have to wake him up at 6:30.  Every once in awhile he will wake up twice in the night or have a hard time going back to sleep, but that is not the norm luckily.  He did have one night where everytime we put him down (he was asleep in our arms) he would wake up and start screaming, so finally we took him on a car ride, he fell asleep, and then he stayed asleep for the night, even after I transferred him!  He is nursed and rocked to sleep.  He doesn't do well at putting himself to sleep, but that's ok.

Your napping has gotten even worse.  I am lucky if he takes a 30 minute nap at one time.  45 minutes is a miracle, haha!  I have to rock Ethan to sleep with a pacifier.  Hopefully napping will get better!

What we do every day: Before I went back to work our days were pretty much the same as last month.  He loves sitting facing out and looking at things around him.  He is smiling more and more all the time.  Now that I am back at work, our days will consist of me getting ready, waking him up at 6:30 and feeding him, dropping him off at daycare at 7:05, me heading to school while he has fun at daycare, Jed picking him up between 3:00 and 4:30, then me coming home and feeding him, hanging out for a few hours, then feeding him before he goes to bed.  We have bath time about every other day.

Eating:  Ethan's eating has slowed down quite a bit.  He eats about every 3 hours.  Since I am nursing I don't know how much he takes, but I do know he is an incredibly efficient eater!  At daycare I am giving her 4 oz bottles to give him.  He had his first few hours at daycare today, and he only ate 2 1/2 oz.  I am pretty sure he was fairly distracted by all the activity around him!  My mom has been watching him this week and he has been eating great for her.

Looks:  Still blonde hair (getting more and more every day) and blue eyes.  We finally got the eye infection cleared up. Ethan is absolutely adorable.

Milestones:  Ethan is smiling away!  He also reached out and grabbed on and held onto a toy this month.  He is also making all sorts of noises and loves looking at what is going on.

Firsts: This month you were baptized, you went to your first Royals game, and you had your first few hours at daycare!  You also got to be held by many new family members as well as your 98 year old great-great grandma!

What we are looking forward to:  Weekends when we get to spend time together.

What we are dreading:  Your shots on Monday :(

Enjoy the pictures!
