14 weeks 1 day - Baby #2

I decided to start taking weekly photos again - I don't want to look back and feel like I didn't document this pregnancy like I did with Ethan.

I am starting to show a little bit, just in this week I have started to not be able to button some of my dress pants very comfortably.  I actually have lost a total of 9 lbs since the start of my pregnancy.  My dr was questioning it, but it mostly came from when I had a really bad cold right around Christmas and was a little nauseous, so food didn't taste or sound good.  I also am trying to work on making healthy food decisions and eating lots of fruit.  I did stop losing and gained a pound at my latest doctor appointment, so I think from here on out the hardest part will be slowing the weight gain!

Like I mentioned, I had a really bad cold/cough around Christmas.  Jed was sick before Christmas, Ethan was sick during Christmas, and I got sick after Christmas.  My cold would not leave and I had to end up being put on antibiotics to get over it.  It was not fun, and I am hoping to avoid major sickness the rest of the pregnancy.

I have honestly felt pretty good throughout the first trimester.  There are times, especially in the evening, where I have felt a little off, but nothing that was just ridiculous.  I have been tired, but not the extreme exhaustion that I remember from the first pregnancy.  I did have the ridiculous thirst that I had with Ethan, but that seems to be going away now.  I am trying to remember to drink lots of water, I don't want any contraction scares like I had last time.

Story of how we found out - After three months of negative pregnancy tests, I took another test on November 22 (a few days after my missed period), and it was negative again.  I was very sad.  I spent that weekend with Ethan in Sharon Springs for my cousin's wedding and ending up confiding to my mom how upset I was that it was taking so long to get pregnant (when I know in all reality it wasn't taking that long) and that it really upset me when people asked me when we were going to have another baby.  I went back to Topeka on Sunday by myself (we had a lot of family in town for the week for Thanksgiving, so I left Ethan in Sharon Springs) and decided on Tuesday before I left to go back out to Sharon Springs to take another test.  This time it was positive!  Unfortunately I needed to leave but Jed wasn't home yet, so I couldn't tell anyone.  Jed was supposed to come out on Thursday morning for Thanksgiving, but Wednesday night he found out he had to work on Friday and couldn't come out.  I was devastated as I did not want to tell him over the phone and I was dying to tell someone.  Thursday morning he surprised me by showing up in Sharon Springs with his dad (he found out that he didn't actually didn't have to work late Wednesday night).  I took him downstairs where I had taken another pregnancy test (it was positive!).  We were both ecstatic and decided it was too perfect of a situation not to tell our family.  We pulled my parents, Jed's dad, Ethan, Lester, Kinsey,Wil, and Callie into a room at the church where we were having Thanksgiving.  We had Doug and Maleia on the phone (I thought Patty was there, but she came in a little bit later).  We told them that we would be adding another member of the Lake family the end of July.  Everyone was thrilled.  We ended up telling my Granny and Grandma and Grandpa that weekend as well but did not tell the rest of our family until the weekend after Christmas (I had my first appt the day after Christmas and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat then - it was awesome!).  We announced to more family and friends with the picture of Ethan on our Christmas card.  We posted on facebook today with the same picture.

We have had two appointments for baby so far - one the day after Christmas.  She could not find the heartbeat on the dopplar, so she used a vaginal dopplar and almost gave up before she finally found it!  It was awesome to hear.  The other appointment we had was today.  She was able to find baby's heartbeat with the regular dopplar and it looks like everything is going great!

Lake Baby #2!

We are excited to announce that Jed, Ethan, and I are going to be welcoming another member to our family at the end of July.  We are officially due July 28, but will have a scheduled c-section the week before.  This was the picture we used to announce the pregnancy on our Christmas card and facebook!

Superhero Ethan!

My cousin Darcy sent Ethan a superhero cape and mask.  He has worn it a few times, but this was the first time he was really excited about it.  He had a great time with it and kept it on for almost an hour until we made him come inside!

Even superheros need to farm!

Superheros are great at basketball!

And superheros love to swing!
