Adam - 1 month

I absolutely cannot believe that Adam is already 1 month old.  We are really settling in to life with 2 kids, and loving every minute of it.

Weight: This kid loves to gain weight!
     Birth:   7 lbs 12.6 oz
Hospital discharge: 7 lbs 5.4 oz
     1 week: 7 lbs 8.4 oz
1 week dr appt:  7 lbs 13 oz
     2 weeks:  8 lbs 9.9 oz
     3 weeks:  9 lbs 10.9 oz
     4 weeks:  10 lbs 8.9 oz
1 month appt: 11 lbs even (80th percentile)

Length:
    Birth:  20.5 inches
    1 month appt: 21.75 inches (60th percentile)

Head circumference:
    Birth:  14.5 inches (36.8 cm)
    1 month appt: 15.25 inches (90th percentile)

Clothes:  He has grown out of the few newborn clothes we had for him as well as all the Gerber 0-3 month onesies.  He is in all 0-3 month clothes.

Diapers:  We started in newborn diapers, and graduated to size 1 after about 2 weeks.  We still have some 1-2 Costco diapers left from Ethan so we are using those now.

Sleep:  The first few nights at home were pretty decent from what I was expecting.  Since then he has gone through a few spells of eating every 1 1/2 - 2 hours, but has settled in to a routine of about 3 - 3 1/2 hours for his first stretch, then 2 1/2 - 3, then 2ish.  Luckily he has gone back to sleep fairly easily.  Every once in awhile he needs the pacifier.  At 2 weeks he moved from the bassinet to his cradle in our closet.  He is swaddled every night.

Eating:  The boy eats a lot - hence the weight gain.  Just like Ethan, he is an efficient eater, and our nursing sessions last about 5 - 7 minutes.  He eats every 1 1/2 - 2 hours during the day.  Every once in awhile he will make it 2 1/2 hours.  Overall his temperament is pretty easy going, except when he wakes up and is hungry, then he is mad!  You have a ton of gas, but so far no spit up - hopefully that doesn't change!  At the clinic you have been taking about 3 to 3 1/2 oz per feeding.  So for the few bottles we have done we do 2 1/2 to 3 oz bottles.

Our Day:  The curse of being a second child is that you don't always get to sleep in to whenever you want.  I usually get Ethan up about 7:15 and we get Adam up around 7:45.  We nurse on demand, and he is still napping a lot.  He has started to go about 1 to 1 1/2 hours between naps and is definitely becoming more alert.  We haven't taken near as many walks, because it seems like we have a lot more going on.  Luckily for my wallet, we have only made one trip to Babies r Us in your month of life, unlike we Ethan when we went every few days.  We try to go to the breastfeeding clinic at least once a week.  You like hanging out on the floor, and really like tummy time!  We usually walk up to take Ethan to daycare in the morning and walk to get him in the afternoon if it's not too hot.  I usually just carry you instead of messing with your car seat.  I usually get you in your pj's about 7:30, you nap, then I put you down for the night about 9:00.  You take most of your daytime naps in the rock n play, and I try to have you nap in the pack and play sometimes.  I think I need to start swaddling you for your pack and play naps.

Looks: Still not a ton of hair, but it is definitely darker than Ethan's.  Beautiful blue eyes with lots of crusty build up (assuming clogged tear duct).

Milestones:  Your biggest milestone was rolling over from tummy to back at 2 weeks and 2 days.  You did it a few more times in the next few weeks but haven't done it again in about a week - I think you got too fat!  You are just starting to smile.  You are great at holding your head up.  You are starting to make sounds other than crying - I love hearing them!  You lost your circumcision ring and most of your umbilical cord at 2 weeks, lost the rest of your cord at 3 weeks.

Firsts:  Of course everything was a first since you were a new baby, but the big things were:  First Railroad Festival, first bath, first tub bath, first restaurant outing, first walks in the stroller, first trip to the zoo, first time in the front pack (you really like it in there until you are hungry) and lots of other things!

What we are looking forward to: Your baptism this weekend in Sharon Springs!
